Thanks to all for the thoughts and links. Nick - I should have pointed out that I was skiing, so coach wasn't a viable option.

On a lighter note, Can I suggest taking longer skiing holidays less frequently?

Mr.Melon - good question. You raise an interesting point: should we actually be seeking to "stop the Chinas and Indias of this world"? In terms of seeking their own development, surely the answer has to be No, so I think we really have to put our efforts into a) developing low carbon technologies, and then sharing them / encouraging their adoption, and b) developing a strongly positive economic case for 'clean' energy (be it renewables, or 'clean coal', or carbon capture and storage, or whatever).

If nothing else - i reckon this just shows how divided the governments of the world are ... over how to take things forward. The fact that there are no targets highlights these divisions - and sugests that we'll have to wait for another 2 years to Denmark, before they have another crack.

What significance does everyone think this is going to have on reducing climate change? I think it must have some intangible affect on awareness and people's individual consciences about their own carbon footprint but how are we going to stop the Chinas and Indias of this world who are amongst the worst polluters?

I saw an awesome scheme in France last year, where the resort provides little tins for skiiers to put their cigarette butts in and take them home instead of chucking them off the chairlift. Apparently they take up to five years to disintegrate, which is contributing to the 'alleged' increase in lung cancer cases amongst marmottes and chamois! Maybe you can suggest they do the same thing in the resort you're in (I read your other post!)

I'm keen to hear ideas on what I can do to balance my environmental karma!

So far I've paid to go "Carbon Neutral" on the flights (I guess by buying credits) and I'm making a point of picking up any litter that I find on the mountain. Other suggestions welcome.

Branding is the the way forward, you just need to target the right channels. Not only do you need the dreadlocked vegaterians you also need the general public onboard and try and remove the stigma. Timing is everything and this is the hot topic of the day. Just need to keep pushing. Brainstorming is the way forward. Maybe some sponsord ski race suits...?

One of our key initial thoughts has been this: we're aiming to use branding and the power of the internet to really get people excited and engaged with 'doing something'. There are plenty of people out there who are closet environmentalists, but don't know where to start. And others are put off by the thought that it's just for people with dreadlocks (apologies if that includes you or anyone you know!). So it's seeking to
be mainstream, rather than niche. (Although clearly there will be plenty of support for serious debate!)

I'd like to know what you think about this focus?
